Face Shape: Square

This face shape:

  • Square face shapes are typically very symmetrical
  • Forehead, cheekbones and jaw will be the same width, but your jaw will have sharp angles to it
  • Face is about the same width and length
  • Angular jawline and chin
  • Cheekbones and chin aren't particularly prominent on a square face
  • Similar in appearance to a round face, but have more pronounced, wide jawlines

Recommendations:

  • Aim for a soft, textured looks
  • Straight styles or loose waves may be more flattering than large, bouncy curls
  • Steer clear of length that hits at the jawline
  • Aim for shorter or longer than the jaw
  • Ideal length is typically an inch or two below/above the jawline
  • The aim is to elongate the proportions of the face and to soften angles
  • Aim for volume on top that thins out towards the bottoms
